I have previously written about how modern attempts at spreading the Gospel have instead diluted it. I specifically condemned recent Christian music and TV. However, that is not the full extent of poor modern evangelism.
I hinted that one of the problems with “Netflix Jesus” is that it’s making Christ into just another sitcom/drama character. Well, there’s already a far more glaring example of this.
This image boils my blood. Let us discuss the begriffsgeschichte (“conceptual history” for uninitates.)
It’s a “meme” derived from “Yes Chad”.
According to KnowYourMeme:
“Yes Chad, also known as Nordic Gamer, refers to a drawn image of a blond man with blue eyes often wearing a beard, usually captioned ‘Yes’ and to the original Wojak Comics format based on the character.
The image is a subformat of Nordic / Mediterranean 4chan meme and originated on Twitter in early August 2019. The image has been used as a reaction and an exploitable on Twitter, 4chan and other online platforms, usually used to debase those attempting to mock or bully a person for their personal traits or interests.”
Yes Chad has been used by young right wingers like this:
(Note: while researching “Yes Chad” I came across some of the most reprehensible images I have ever seen, and they weren’t even pornographic. People who make memes are seriously sick.)
Anyway, because the cultural rot of “memes” is endemic at this point, it was sadly inevitable that a “Jesus Yes Chad” would be spawned. It is my private and pious belief that Satan himself drew the first one in MSPaint. And now we have to look at inappropriate images like the following:
So why are these so bad? Well, one could argue from an iconoclastic point of view, that all depictions of Christ are sinful. However, I will argue instead that these images are simply irreverent. They degrade Jesus and shame His holy name.
They teach many of their viewers that Jesus is not to be taken seriously. After all, that is the consensus of modern thought on Christ. He’s just a cool zany guy!
Is this not true? When Jesus Chad is in the same cinematic universe as “twinkjak” is this not irreverent?
Does the faith not become ridiculous when you turn into a blackpilled doomer wojak after breaking your NoFap streak until Jesus Chad and Priest Gigachad redeem your soul with based Orthodox chants?
Is not the beginning of wisdom the fear of God? How can one claim to fear God and then depict Him as an infantile internet meme?
If you will take one thing in your life seriously it should be your faith as only that will affect your eternal destiny. Being a Christian is not another “based hobby” one picks up like weightlifting or semen retention.
The fruit of all this irreverence can be seen clearly with things like recent “Gen Z slang Bible” incidents.
No, this was not created by some smarmy atheist but a professed believer.
I think if you “knew the New Testament very well” then you would realize that this is simultaneously retarded and evil.
Reading “I try not to be disrespectful to the text or to stray from any accuracy” immediately sent a jolt of pain through my body. As well as “among both believers and nonbelievers”. Everytime you hear that both believers and wicked sinners enjoy a new “Christian” cultural artefact (such as The Chosen) you should immediately know that there is something very wrong.
Also, “whatever it takes to get them to come to God” is one of the worst mindsets you can have in evangelism. It’s the spirit of compromise and worldliness. Purge that thought from your mind.
If you are a Christian and you would like to evangelize, you should focus on 1-on-1 ministry as that is objectively the most effective method. The Gospel should be the meditation of your heart and spill out in your everyday conversation.
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.” - Deuteronomy 6:4-9
